God’s Not Dead - Proof of a Personal Creator - Part 1 - The Universe

Hebrews 11:3  By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

Hello, and thank you for visiting my page today. The following article may very well be the most important one I have written, and I truly appreciate you for reading this today. Showing the existence of God, both to current believers and non-believers. My goal with The Jesus Movement will always be to lead you to Christ, and through that, we need to know our Father. As a believer, I know God exists. Believers don’t need convincing. But how do you show a non-believer, so that perhaps they can give it some thought, and then perhaps find their way to Jesus as well? This is my attempt to show you His existence, through the Word, through prayer, and by taking a look at our universe in a simple way that I believe all can understand. As I have been working on this for some time, I quickly realized I could not do this in one article. I will break this down into 3 articles, beginning with a look into our universe: Part 1 - The Universe.

Let’s begin with our universe, and how I believe God created it. The Bible speaks of God as someone not bound by space and time. Isaiah 51:15 tells us that God inhabits eternity. Isaiah 51:15 For thus said the high and lofty One that inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

Looking at the universe, we can infer that an outside force created it, for from nothing, comes nothing, if not for a cause and reaction. That is a basic principle. Something must bring something else into existence, whether we are talking about a baby, a car, a rock, a cat, whichever - the point is, things don’t magically pop into existence. As far back as 1929, Edwin Hubble discovered that the universe is ever expanding. Science has since expanded on this idea over time, proving that galaxies are indeed moving farther and farther away from each other as time passes. Since this was proven true, we could trace this back to a single point, as there must be a point when this occurred - similar to how a human begins as a single sperm cell fertilizing an oocyte and eventually grows to a full size adult, the universe had to begin at some singular point.

Now, with that being said, since science can prove today that the universe began from a singular point, sometimes quoted as “the big bang”, a theory highly regarded by some of the greatest scientific minds, then it had to have an abstract cause. This means someone before the creation of the universe, that exists outside of it, had the thought to create it and thus took action, and caused this big explosion, because if the universe didn’t exist yet then nothing inside of it can exist within. In layman’s terms, the universe cannot create the universe. Whatever did this, must have existed outside of it, and when we look further, for something to create matter, space, and time, this person would have had to be spaceless, timeless, and immaterial - which is exactly how the Bible describes God - as a Spirit, who can take on many forms, and not bound by earthly laws:

Colossians 1:15 15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

Exodus 3:2 2 There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up.

Numbers 12:5 And the LORD came down in a pillar of cloud and stood at the entrance of the tent and called Aaron and Miriam, and they both came forward.

I firmly believe God to be a self-aware, loving and caring being who made a choice to bring us into existence. Jesus came in the flesh. And The Holy Spirit is capable of decisions and reasoning. 1 Corinthians 2:10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For further reference, if you haven’t read my prior article on “Trinity vs Oneness”, please do so - I use the Word to show how God, The Holy Spirit, and Jesus are 3 separate.

Continuing on now, let’s examine the universe even closer, and the fine tuning of its creation. The universe is so finely tuned to work how it does, that even the slightest changes could throw everything off. When we express it in mathematical terms, we get constants and values.

Take a look at the Cosmological Constant - the value of density in the vacuum of space, the pressure and energy within empty space that prevents it from collapsing on itself. This unit appears in Einstein field equations, the general theory of relativity that Einstein relates the geometry of space and time with the spacing of matter within it, seen as the symbol Λ , and for reference Λ = 3/τ 2 = 2.036 × 10−35s−2

The Cosmological Constant, calculated using standard physics, is 10^120.  This number is so precise that if this was off or changed by just ONE part, the universe would not be able to sustain life. Roger Penrose, Emeritus Rouse Ball Professor of Mathematics at the University of Oxford, studied entropy, which is a calculation of the spread of energy, with low entropy meaning energy is concentrated, and high entropy indicating energy is spread out. He calculated that with this low entropy state of existence in our universe, 10^10^123, based on this number, the odds of the universe existing by chance and not purposely created is a number so small, it can be viewed as billions of times more unlikely than you walking outside and seeing flying purple horses singing Christian rock songs. If we existed in a higher entropy at this time, the universe would be collapsing in itself in the form of black holes. In other words, mathematics can prove that the universe has a personal Creator, and the likelihood that it does not is almost incalculable except with a ridiculous variation of algebraic properties.

So, with all that said, another conclusion we can draw is that the universe did not have to come together like this. We can easily imagine a universe that had different variations that led to different results, such as stronger or weaker gravity, or different oxygen levels, or stronger helium levels - we could go on and on, but this leads us to our next case point - the fact that it did not and instead came together perfectly for life to exist is another proof of a personal Creator. I just barely touched the surface with my example, but realizing how complex of a process it was for the universe to come together how it did should be proof enough for anyone. Think about it this way - if we were playing a game of “pick the straw with the red bottom out of the cup to win”, this would be like picking the red straw on the first chance out of billions and billions of all black straws in one cup. In my previous article on “Trinity vs Oneness Theory”, I also give a similar example referencing how a computer is created and used.

I think the easiest of these presented ideas to understand is going back to the fact that from nothing, comes nothing, and that for things to exist, it has to have a cause. You really do not have to even understand mathematics to understand this. The universe could not create the universe, otherwise, after nearly 14 billion years, we would see at least one other universe beginning to self create within our own universe, but we do not.

I thank you so much for reading this today.  Part 2 - Prayer, will be coming soon. I presented what I feel is a fairly layman's terms article as far as the field of science would be concerned, but I also feel it does not have to be any more complicated than this to prove God as a personal Father and Creator. He is our Father, and gave His only begotten son, in the flesh, Jesus Christ to be our Lord and Savior.
